Linear Welding & Fabrication in Houston, TX

Linear Welding & Fabrication: The Houston Owner’s Guide

Linear gate operator welding and fabrication repair in Houston typically runs $280-$650 installed, depending on whether we’re reinforcing a stressed hinge point, rebuilding a mounting bracket, or fabricating a custom solution for an older Linear actuator that no longer has factory parts available. We stock common Linear-compatible steel stock, mounting plates, and bracketry on every truck, and most fabrication jobs are completed same-day on a single visit. You’ll usually discover the problem when your Linear operator starts grinding, your gate begins to sag at the hinge side, or the actuator arm pulls away from its mount because the original weld has cracked through.

Which Linear Models This Applies To

Linear welding and fabrication issues most commonly surface on the LA-500, LA-650, and LA-850 swing gate actuator series, the SL-100 and SL-200 slide gate operators, and the older LSO and LDO estate models still running in neighborhoods like River Oaks, Memorial, and The Woodlands. The mounting brackets on these units are powder-coated steel, and after fifteen to twenty years of Houston humidity cycles, the factory welds at the actuator-to-gate connection points often fatigue. Check the silver data plate on the operator body for the model number, then measure your gate frame tubing: Linear actuators typically mount to 2-inch, 2.5-inch, or 4-inch square tube, and the bracket hole pattern varies by series. The LA-500 uses a three-bolt triangular mount, while the LA-850 and slide gate models use a four-bolt rectangular pattern.

We are an independent service provider, not affiliated with Linear. For brackets and mounts that Linear no longer produces, we fabricate from A36 structural steel to match the original geometry, then hot-dip galvanize or powder coat to match your gate finish. OEM replacement brackets, when still available, run higher and carry Linear’s factory finish. Our fabricated equivalents match the steel gauge and bolt pattern exactly, and we warranty the weld and the fit under our 90-Day Done Right Promise. We will tell you what it needs, not what sells.

Signs Your Linear Welding & Fabrication Is Failing

  • Grinding or popping when the gate moves. This usually means the actuator mounting bracket has cracked at the weld and the arm is shifting slightly with each cycle. In Houston’s clay soils, gate posts settle seasonally, adding stress that the original weld was never designed to absorb.
  • Gate sagging or binding at the hinge post. The hinge itself may be sound, but the mounting plate welded to your gate frame can crack where it meets the tubing. We’ve replaced dozens of these in Bellaire and West University on wrought-iron gates where the thin factory weld finally gave way after twenty years.
  • Actuator arm pulling away from the gate or post. The bracket welds have failed completely. If you can see daylight between the bracket and the mounting surface, or the bolts are tilting, the metal has separated and the operator is fighting itself every cycle.
  • Visible rust streaks or scaling at weld joints. Houston humidity penetrates paint and powder coat at the heat-affected zone of a weld. Once rust starts under the surface, it expands and cracks the weld from the inside out. Caught early, we can grind back, weld repair, and re-coat before full failure.
  • Operator runs but gate barely moves, or stops mid-travel. The motor is fine, but the mechanical connection between operator and gate is compromised. A cracked bracket absorbs actuator force as flex instead of motion, and the operator’s limit switches throw errors because the gate never reaches its expected position.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

Service Typical Range What’s Included
Bracket weld repair (grind, re-weld, re-coat) $280-$420 Removal, surface prep, MIG weld repair, cold-galvanizing primer, color-matched topcoat
Custom bracket fabrication (single mount) $380-$550 Template from original, A36 steel cut and formed, welded, galvanized or powder coated, installed
Full hinge/post rebuild with new mounting $520-$650 Gate removal if needed, post reinforcement or replacement plate, new heavy-duty hinge barrel, rehang and align

What drives the range: access to the weld (underground operator vaults add time), whether we can repair in place or must remove the gate, and whether the post itself has rotted or cracked at the base. We settle the full price before we strike an arc. No surprises on the bill. Every fabrication job carries our 90-Day Done Right Promise: if the weld, the fit, or the finish isn’t right, we come back and make it right, no paperwork, no arguing.

Active offers that apply: $50 off any repair over $250, and our permanent 5% Senior and Veteran discount. If you have another company’s written estimate, we’ll give you a free second opinion.

DIY or Call Us?

There’s a short list of things a careful homeowner can check safely. Tighten the visible bolts on your Linear actuator bracket with the operator powered off at the breaker. Look for cracks in the paint at weld joints. Measure whether the gate is level across the top. What you should not do: attempt to weld a loaded gate bracket yourself. Gate actuator mounts carry hundreds of pounds of dynamic load, and a cold weld or wrong rod choice will fail without warning, dropping a gate on a vehicle or person. The same applies to cutting or grinding near the operator’s electrical harness.

If the bracket is cracked, if the gate has sagged, or if you’re not certain whether the problem is the weld, the hinge, or the operator itself, call us. We carry the welding equipment, the steel stock, and the Linear-specific mounting hardware to fix it in one trip. (888) 799-8389. A live person answers, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
